EFFECTIVE GUM
TREATMENT
AND GUIDANCE
Periodontal Treatment
Gum disease is a very common problem, if left untreated it can cause pain and tooth loss. It is normally caused by poor oral hygiene, inadequate cleaning and flossing. This means that the bacteria in the mouth can multiply, causing plaque to form around the teeth and the gums to become inflamed. This plaque needs to be removed before the gums are damaged and the teeth become loose.
The dental hygienist will remove any plaque and tartar build-up from the teeth and roots. They will then polish the teeth and may treat them with a fluoride product. Any periodontal pockets that have formed will require a deep clean to prevent reinfection. Full-blown periodontitis may require treatment by our own specialist periodontologist, David Leigh Van As.
