FAQ
Even if you’re not anxious about dental visits, IV sedation can make your appointment much more comfortable. It’s especially helpful for patients with a sensitive gag reflex, heightened tooth sensitivity, or those undergoing lengthy treatments like deep cleanings or multiple fillings. Sedation allows for a smoother experience overall.
IV sedation offers a number of key benefits, such as:
- Little or no recollection of the procedure
- A loss of awareness of time while sedated
- No perception of sounds or smells during treatment
- A calm, anxiety-free experience throughout
Not at all. While it’s excellent for easing dental fears, sedation can also benefit patients who struggle with gagging, have difficulty sitting still, or need several procedures done in one visit. It can be used alongside local anesthesia to help you stay fully relaxed and pain-free.
The majority of patients report feeling no pain during their procedure and are often pleasantly surprised by how well they feel afterward.
You’ll likely feel fine after your procedure, but for your safety, we ask that a trusted friend or family member drive you home as the effects of sedation can linger for a short time.
In most cases, patients remember very little—if anything—about their treatment, which is one of the main reasons IV sedation is so popular.
